So my lovely assistant asked me to write this blog post about a challenge I have had in business. Honestly, it was so hard to come up with something! Not because I haven't had any trials being a business owner, but I NEVER post anything negative about anything ever! I am LITERALLY all puppy dogs and rainbows online all of the time! But she thought it would be good to see into the real world of sole proprietorship, so I will share one of the hardest things I have had to deal with since starting Ledgehill Photography in 2012.
The hardest thing I have ever had to deal with in photography is when my clients do not like their images.
Yes, it has happened and yes, it is ALWAYS hard to deal with. Back when I first started, it was like getting stabbed in the heart. I would sweat and cry and freak out that I did something wrong. I would lose my footing and my confidence would take a huge hit. Then something happened. I realized it wasn't about me at all and that made it SO much easier to deal with!
Maybe she didn't like her hair and makeup that day. Or her kids were acting up and not looking at the camera. Or her husband didn't want to be there and wouldn't cooperate. Maybe it was raining, or sunny, or cloudy or..... Sometimes no matter how hard I try, the images are not their favorite.
So what do I do? I offer to re shoot them for free! Every time. Because I want you to LOVE your images! I want you to see your pictures and be moved by how amazing they are. I want you to open your album or gaze at your wall hanging and be overcome with emotion. If you don't feel that way, then I want another crack at it. YOU loving YOUR images is THE reason I do what I do. It's about the feeling, the emotion and the love not just a piece of paper with a photo on it.
So now that you know my hardest challenge in business I want to hear yours. What trial or tribulation have you had that you overcame? The things that are the hardest are what make us grow the most.
