I am just loving the contemporary portrait work I am doing lately. I have had so many wonderful ladies in my studio recently for Professional Branding and I am having such a great time. So what makes these head shots contemporary, you ask? It's all about the lighting!
Traditional head shots are great. We've been doing them for years and they all produce great results. Here is an example of a traditional head shot...
Traditional headshots are shot with at least two lights with modifiers on a backdrop. There is always a key light and a kicker light to separate the subject from the backdrop. These head shots have stood the test of time and have been used by many professionals over the years.
Recently a new style has emerged for professionals wanting a different look. Contemporary head shots are more relaxed. Mine typically use "God light" or natural light to replace the strobes. They can be shot on any different background but I usually use a dark grey or black.
My clients are even choosing to go outside for their branding images! It is a far cry from when you would NEVER see an outside headshot! I find these images to be more personable. More real and definitely less posed.
We are even using different backgrounds now too. In this shot, I choose a beautiful Waverly pattern to match Lori's fun personality!
So what do you think? Are you loving the new Contemporary Style as much as I am? I'd love to hear your thoughts!
